Kraken Workers Network
You're hard at work building the future of green energy, we're hard at work protecting your rights into the future.
The Kraken Workers Network is an independent, global advocacy group organized by workers for workers at Kraken Tech. We are an alliance of employees working together to improve conditions across the company.
Our Campaign Priorities
The issues below are what our network has identified as the most pressing at Kraken today. As an alliance of workers, these are the core policy changes and protections we are actively advocating for.
Kraken does not publish salary bands or a documented pay structure. Compensation is negotiated on an individual basis, with no visibility into how decisions are made or how one employee's pay compares to another's. This creates conditions where outcomes depend more on an individual's willingness to negotiate than on a consistent, fair standard.
Published, documented salary bands with a transparent methodology behind them. Public visibility of that reporting where legally required.
Protections around on-call and overtime pay are inconsistent across the business.
Consistent, company-wide on-call and overtime compensation policy, not dependent on which team an employee sits in. Full disclosure of applicable payment schedules and rates at the time any on-call agreement is presented for signature.
Employees currently have no formal input into decisions about how generative AI tools are selected, deployed, or integrated into their workflows, nor visibility into what data or customer information those tools are permitted to process. Across the wider technology sector, workforce reductions have in some cases been publicly attributed to “AI transformation” in circumstances where the underlying driver was a decision to discontinue funding a function, rather than genuine automation of the work performed. Kraken employees have no assurance that similar framing would not be applied here.
Meaningful consultation with employees before generative AI tools are introduced into workplace systems or processes. A clear, published policy governing what data these tools may access, particularly where customer or commercially sensitive information is involved. Where any restructuring is attributed to AI adoption, a transparent basis for that claim that can be reasonably scrutinised by affected staff.
Kraken does not operate a dedicated HR function; this is understood to be a deliberate organisational decision. A People team exists but does not hold the authority to independently investigate or resolve workplace conduct matters.
A harassment and misconduct reporting process that operates independently of an employee's direct management line, with genuine authority to investigate and act. Recognition, consistent with established work health and safety principles, that harassment and bullying affect witnesses and team culture, not only the individual directly targeted. Clear protection against retaliation for employees who make use of the process.
In the absence of a formal HR function, career progression and role security are determined almost entirely through an employee's individual relationship with their manager. There is no documented framework describing what is required to advance to a given level or role, and no consistency in how progression is assessed across different teams or managers.
A documented set of role levels and progression criteria, applied consistently across the organisation. A clear and transparent link between progression criteria and the pay bands requested above, so that career growth at Kraken is governed by a defined standard rather than by the discretion of an individual manager.
Find Your Union
The Kraken Workers Network is an internal advocacy group: we exist to organize staff at Kraken Tech globally and campaign on Kraken-specific issues. However, we are a network, not a registered trade union. We cannot offer legal protection or formal industrial representation. For that reason, and for the security of our members, full access to our internal communications and planning requires membership in a recognized industrial union in your region. Find your local union below.
Select your country above to see the industrial unions relevant to you.
How access works: Anyone at Kraken is welcome to subscribe to our public updates. However, to join our internal coordination channels and strategy discussions, you must verify your membership with a registered union in your jurisdiction (such as Professionals Australia, UTAW, CODE-CWA, etc.) or demonstrate that you are engaging in legally protected organizing activities under your local laws.
